Accessibility

I want tomhamides.com to be usable and enjoyable for as many people as possible, including those who rely on assistive technologies. This is a personal hobby project, and I improve accessibility on a best-effort basis.

1. What I Aim For

Where practical, I try to follow the spirit of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This includes:

• Text that can be resized and remains readable;
• Reasonable colour contrast for important content;
• Keyboard access to links and interactive elements;
• Descriptive links and headings so pages are easy to navigate;
• A layout that adapts to phones, tablets, and desktops.

2. Accessibility Tools on This Site

Look for the round accessibility button in the bottom-left corner of every page. Opening it lets you turn on:

• Text size — make the text larger or smaller;
• High contrast — a plain black-and-white mode that removes the neon glow;
• Highlight links — underline every link so they stand out;
• Reduce motion — stop animations and transitions;
• Readable font — a simpler font with extra letter and line spacing;
• Reading guide — a highlighted line that follows your cursor.

Your choices are saved in your browser and stay on as you move between pages. Use Reset all in the panel to clear them.

3. Browser & Assistive-Technology Compatibility

The Site is built to work with recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, and to be usable with keyboard navigation and common screen readers (such as NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack).

4. Known Limitations

Because the Site has a neon “arcade” visual style, some elements use bright glowing colours and animation by default (the tools above let you turn these down). Some interactive games may not yet be fully optimised for screen readers. This is a hobby project, so improvements happen gradually — if you find any part hard to use, please tell me.

5. Extra Tips

• Most browsers let you zoom in with Ctrl / Cmd and +.
• Your operating system's reduced-motion setting is respected where supported.
• You can navigate links using the Tab key and activate them with Enter.
